TOTS

The TOTS class is for children about 16 months of age or when they become proficient walkers and can graduate into the TOTS program.

This program is available for a reduced day (8:00-3:30) or full day (7:00-5:45), for 2, 3, 4 or 5 days a week.

2021 began as it usually does except there was a baby "bloom." Some say it was the Pandemic shut down that increased our enrollment by double. To accommodate this beautiful baby bloom CCLC expanded the space for the Infant/Toddler room to include a class we call TOTS (Transitioning Ones and Two's) in the classroom next to the Two's class. The teachers encourage the children to form positive relationships with their peers whilst learning good social skills in a warm and fun-filled atmosphere. We use the term "taking turns" in place of "share" to nurture respect. We encourage the children to become more independent as they begin to learn skills such as putting socks and shoes on, sitting at a table without the use of a high chair, and becoming more proficent with their receptive and expressive vocabulary. Language at this age skyrockets! Children begin to understand hundreds of words even if they can't say them yet. TOTS begin to understand choices and often are able to express their ideas verbally or non-verbally. This is where American Sign Language is helpful as children can learn to say the word and do the movement. Our Teaching Strategies Gold online child portfolio provides another way for our teachers and parents to document development throughout these exciting years. This is such an exciting time as your baby grows into a terrific two!
